Poker Nordica, one of the larger rooms on the Merge Poker Network, has officially closed its doors. The site ceased operations on April 1, 2012, giving players another month to withdraw funds or make other arrangements to use their current account balances. Many players have suspected that something was up at Poker Nordica over the last few weeks. During March, several players reported issues getting in touch with customer support and other Poker Nordica personnel. This was particularly surprising in this case, as Poker Nordica had traditionally been quite reliable in answering emails promptly. But any confusion about what was happening was removed during the past week, when the site began contacting customers to inform them that the site was going out of business. Emails were sent to players beginning on March 30; soon thereafter, players who logged into the site were greeted with a similar message.Poker Nordica was launched in 2006, and was a part of the Merge Gaming Network since its inception. While the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in the United States later that year could easily have sunk the site before it ever had a chance to grow a player base, Poker Nordica persevered, and it eventually became the second largest site on the Merge Network (behind only Carbon Poker). For players who have accounts on Poker Nordica, there are a couple of different options available if they want to make use of their account balances. Players have until May 1st to log into the site and ask for a withdrawal of their funds. The minimum withdrawal by check is $100; with a $15 fee, that means players must have $115 to process a withdrawal. However, players also have the option of transferring their balances to one of several other sites on the Merge Poker Network, allowing them to continue playing in the same poker games. In order to take this option, players should send an e-mail to support@pokernordica.com.Here at TopTenPokerSites.org highly recommend players ask to have their balances transferred to Lock Poker rather then any other merge poker skin as we consider them the best merge poker site online today by far.
