If you were wondering who would make the list for the 2021 Global Poker Awards, wonder no more as the list of nominees is now public. The list is comprised of lots of familiar names, some of them are nominated twice.
The winners will be revealed at a ceremony scheduled for February 18 at the PokerGO Studio at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. You can watch it live on PokerGO.
There are over a dozen categories for the 3rd Global Poker Awards. Here are the key categories and the official list of nominees:
# GPI Breakout Player
Four players have made it to the nominees’ list for the GPI Breakout Player after showcasing their skills and winning major tournaments in 2021. They are: Chris Brewer, Kyna England, Johan “YoH ViraL” Guilbert and Vanessa Kade.
Brewer enjoyed a successful 2021, taking down several high-stakes tournaments, including the Poker Masters $25K High Roller. England’s exemplary performance at the 2021 Mid-States Poker Tour earned her the Player of the Year title.
Guilbert made it big at the Super High Roller Bowl in Europe after winning Event #2: $25K No-Limit Hold’em, while Kade emerged victorious in the PokerStars Sunday Million 15th anniversary.
# Best Final Table Performance
All four nominees in this category have conquered the tables at the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
They are: Koray Aldemir (WSOP Main Event), Jeremy Ausmus (WSOP Event #84: $50K PLO High Roller), Dan “Jungleman” Cates (WSOP Event #60: $50K Poker Players Championship) and Adam Friedman (WSOP Event #36: $10K Dealer’s Choice 6-Max Championship).
# Best Streamer
Lex Veldhuis won the Best Streamer award for two consecutive years and is once again included in the current list of nominees for the same category.
The other three nominated for the award are: Kevin “kevinmartin” Martin, Jonathan “apestylespoker” Van Fleet and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg.
# Players Choice for Toughest Opponent
The nominees for this award are some of the biggest names in the world of poker.
Michael Addamo, Ali Imsirovic and David Peters join defending champion Stephen Chidwick for the Players Choice for Toughest Opponent category.
# Best Industry Person
The annual awards ceremony also honors people, not necessarily players, who have made huge contributions to the industry. This year’s nominees for Best Industry Person are: Matt Savage, Tony Burns, Mori Eskandani and Jack Effel.
The individuals earning double nominations are Guilbert, Doug Polk, Joe Stapleton, Jeff Platt and Jamie Kerstetter.
