It seems as though we’ve been talking about Marvin Rettenmaier a lot this week. First, the popular young German poker pro signed a new deal that saw him join Team Party Poker just in time for the World Series of Poker. Now, Rettenmaier’s week could be getting a whole lot better, as he’ll be taking a massive chip lead into the final table of the World Poker Tour World Championship.Rettenmaier finished the 6th day of play in the pole position, taking a stack of over 6.7 million chips into the final table of six players. That’s well more than twice the amount held by his nearly competitor, enough to put him in prime position to win the tournament. It would be the first major win for Rettenmaier, who so far has had most of his success in European events and in online poker. The two men most likely to derail Rettenmaier’s run to the title are the two prominent American pros sitting right behind him in the standings. In second place is Michael Mizrachi, who holds over 2.5 million in chips. Mizrachi is one of the most feared players on the tournament circuit, and will be looking to take down his third WPT crown with a win.In third place is one of the hottest players in all of tournament poker, Stephen O’Dwyer. Although he is yet to win a traditional “major” poker tournament, he has had a string of high finishes as of late, including a win at a WPT National Series tournament in Denmark. That’s enough to have him listed at 5th place on the Global Poker Index – a ranking that is likely to improve after this tournament concludes.Bringing up the rear are former WPT champion Nick Schulman, Trevor Pope, and Philippe Ktorza. The eventual winner will take home a prize of $1,196,858, while every player at the final table will win at least $155,571.
