Last year was the inaugural Poker Open and with almost 1000 entrants, the event was a huge success. In fact, the prizepool of over $470,000 last year is expected to be shattered this year. This year’s Manitoba Lotteries Poker Open will be played at the McPhillips Station Casino in Winnipeg and event coordinators are expecting a prizepool of well over $550,000.The first event will run from April 12th to the 13th and will be a $600 buy-in No Limit Hold’em game. Last year the same event had almost 300 entrants and the first prize was nearly $40,000. Expect both those numbers to increase this year. Day 2 will switch things up a little bit with a $300 buy-in bounty tournament. Last year the same event had a total prizepool of over $85,000 and saw the first place winner take home over $20,000.April 14th and 15th are going to be the most exciting two days of the series because they will play host to the Main Event which has a buy-in of $1,100. 212 players entered into the Main Event last year and battled it out for over $212,000 and saw the first place winner take home over $50,000…not too shabby of a payout at all.To reserve your spot at the events in this year’s series you can purchase tickets from Ticketmaster. This makes guaranteeing yourself a spot easy. All signs are pointing to an even more massive series this year than last year, and that only means that there is more money to be won. There is still plenty of time to reserve hotels and make travel arrangements so you don’t have to worry about missing out on this once a year opportunity. This is only the second year the Poker Open is being held but it is already gaining the type of attention only seen by long-standing live events. For all  you die hard Canadian Poker players who want to practice please check out our Canadian Poker Sites page and don’t forget to bookmark our site for upcoming news on this event.
