Limit hold’em is a great game, and for a long time, it was by far the most popular betting style in the most popular poker game in the world. But over the last decade, no-limit Texas hold’em has far outpaced its limit counterpart, to the point where most casual observers might imagine that limit hold’em is rarely played seriously anymore.Canadian poker superstar Daniel Negreanu aims to change that. On Saturday, Negreanu will face an online player known only as “rUaBot” in a high-stakes limit hold’em heads up battle. This is expected to be the first in a series of matches on PokerStars that will be similar to the SuperStar Showdown – only showcasing limit hold’em.The very first Limit Hold’em Challenge is definitely being played for serious stakes. Negreanu and rUaBot will play 1,250 hands at stakes of $200/$400. Each player will start with $75,000 in their bankroll, and the players will compete on two tables simultaneously. There are only two ways for the match to end: either all 1,250 hands are played, or one player runs out of money completely. To most fans, Negreanu must appear like a heavy favorite here. With over $16 million in lifetime tournament earnings, Negreanu is one of the most successful players of the modern era. He has four World Series of Poker bracelets, along with two World Poker Tour titles. And while he, like most big name pros, might spend most of their time in the world of no limit poker these days, he played plenty of high stakes limit games during his career. But PokerStars is quick to note that rUaBot shouldn’t be counted out in the match against Kid Poker. While no limit is the much more popular game, there is still some high stakes limit action to be found online, and rUaBot is one of the most feared players in the world in that arena. If you’re interested in watching the match, you can catch all the action live on PokerStars starting at 2 pm EDT (6 pm GMT).
