Winning a World Series of Poker gold bracelet is the accomplishment of a lifetime, and winning two is beyond the wildest dreams of most poker players. So when a player wins three – especially over a short period of time – they’ve definitely made a name for themselves. That’s exactly what Matt Matros has accomplished. On Saturday, Matros won the $1,500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em Championship, winning $454,853. For Matros, it marks the third straight year he’s won a bracelet, something done only six times in the history of the World Series. The win also helped show just how versatile Matros is as a player – at least, in one game. The 35-year-old poker pro has now won bracelets in limit, no-limit, and mixed Hold’em formats. But despite his continued success, Matros says that each win is a new thrill.“It doesn’t even occur to me that I might win a bracelet,” Matros said. “Everyone hopes they do, but even winning two the last two years, you never expect to run that good again.”Over his career, Matros has been nearly as prolific in the online poker world as he has in live events. Matros has a tournament win in PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker, among other accomplishments – though he hasn’t played online as much over the past year, as he lives in the United States (New York, to be exact). While you might not recognize the games found at the final table of six, plenty of big names did make deep runs into the money. Mike Matusow just missed a final table appearance by finishing 8th, and Matt Glantz did him one better, coming in 7th. Frank Kassela was also among the leaders for much of the tournament, finishing in 15th place.Matros now has over $1.8 million in live tournament earnings. He is also one of only 55 players to have won three or more WSOP bracelets during their careers.
