Here is some strategy that will help a player start off on the right foot: Early onThe early stages are very important. This is the beginning and you want to be sure that you pay attention to the other players; this is how you will be able to determine what types of players they are. As far as how you play, you want to make sure that you play tight. You should avoid playing any hands that are weak all together. This is not the time for you to take chances. You will want to play hands such as Aces, Kings, and Queens. If you know you have the position, then you can choose to play the Jacks or the tens. Keep in mind while you are playing a tight game, the other important thing you should be doing is watching the other players and making sure that you take notes. |

MiddleOnce a player passes about four blinds they will start to see a difference in the way the other players are playing. This is where you will want to begin playing just a bit looser. If you have been doing well in the tournament thus far, then you should feel comfortable with doing this. You'll start playing those middle pairs or even the two face cards. Here is also where you will be glad you have been paying attention to the other players. The knowledge you gained about the other players can really come in handy during this time. It can be easy for you to get away with an all-in move here provided you have an adequate hand. If another player calls you on it, you will want to make sure you note it and make a mark about this player so you can be aware of them in the future.Late inThis is where it gets to the nitty gritty and downright dirty. During the late stages players will become increasingly aggressive. Players who are the big stack will want to make sure that they try to really come hard at the smaller stacks. If you are the big stack, then raise any hand you are going to play. If you happen to be the short stack, you will need to push hard and look for any chances you have to double up. If you are willing to play a hand, then be willing to go all in with that hand. This is the last chance and you need to do what it takes to further your position and you need to play aggressive. |
